BYD Qin L PHEV sedan exposed with 90 km EV range

The BYD Qin L is a new PHEV sedan that will enter the Chinese market this year. It was spotted in China while the Chinese regulator exposed details on its powertrain. So, the Qin L revealed its secrets before the official launch. It is a mainstream sedan with an aggressive styling and up to 90 km of electric range.

Currently, BYD sells the Qin Plus sedan in China under the Dynasty series. It has BEV and PHEV versions. In 2023, Qin Plus sold 482,145 units, becoming one of the BYD’s bestselling models. Soon, BYD will broaden the Qin family with the Qin L PHEV sedan.

Qin L spy shots and unofficial render images

The BYD Qin L was exposed in spy shots. It follows the brand’s Dragon Face design language with thin headlights and a chrome-plated element. The main feature of the Qin L’s front end is a large grille, which refers to the dragon’s open mouth. The front bumper of this sedan has functional vents, a small air intake, and parking sensors.

The BYD Qin L has a sleek roofline, traditional door handles, a charging port in the rear right fender, and a fuel door on the left rear fender. The exact dimensions of this vehicle are unknown. Based on spy shots, the body length of the Qin L will be around 4,8 meters.

Inside, the Qin L looks close to almost every BYD model in the market. It has a three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom, an LCD instrument cluster, and a large floating screen. In contrast with the Qin Plus sedan, the L version offers a heads-up display. 

Previously, Weibo (Chinese social media) user OuPaoPao created some unofficial render images of the Qin L.

Qin L powertrain

The BYD Qin L is a PHEV sedan. It adopts the brand new 5-gen DM-i powertrain system. Its exact parameters have yet to be revealed. However, it was disclosed the Qin L will adopt a 1.5-liter ICE paired with an electric motor. It will have two battery options:

  • LFP, 10.08 kWh, 3.8 L/100km fuel consumption, 60km EV range
  • LFP, 15.87 kWh, 3.98 L/100km fuel consumption, 90km EV range

For comparison, the Qin Plus DM-i offers two battery options for 8.32 kWh (55 km EV range) and 18.32 kWh (120 km EV range). At the moment, only the plug-in hybrid version of the BYD Qin L was revealed. There is no official information about this sedan’s electric model. We will watch the Qin L closely, so stay tuned!
