From January 24 to February 6, 2027, the 18th edition of the Africa Eco Race will set off from Tangier bound for Dakar. Crossing Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal, competitors will tackle 12 stages through the heart of Africa's vastest desert landscapes, culminating in the legendary finish on the shores of Lac Rose.

Tangier: The Gateway to Africa and an Exceptional Send-Off

For the second consecutive year, the Africa Eco Race reinforces its strategic roots in Morocco by choosing the city of Tangier for its Grand Start. A historical crossroads between continents, Tangier will host the rally caravan from January 21 to 23, 2027, for administrative and technical scrutineering.

On January 24, the official start will be given on the city beach with a spectacular prologue held for local residents and visitors alike. Following a previous edition marked by extreme weather conditions that prevented the initial festivities from taking place, the city of Tangier and the organizers are determined to restore this symbolic stage to its full potential and offer a popular, memorable send-off.

A Route Between Deserts, Endurance, and Open Spaces

For two weeks, the crews will immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of cross-country rallying through a balanced north-to-south journey:

The Kingdom of Morocco (6 stages): The opening days will test driving skills and navigation across varied terrain, leading to an essential rest day on January 30 in Dakhla to recharge bodies and service machines.

Mauritania (5 stages): The heart of the rally. The caravan will head deep into the vast dunes and open desert expanses of Mauritania, renowned for their demanding nature and wild beauty.

Senegal and Lac Rose (1 final stage): Following a final timed special stage through the characteristic savanna landscapes of northern Senegal, the rally reaches its conclusion on February 6. The finish will take place on the shores of the legendary Lac Rose after the traditional non-championship "for glory" special stage on the beach and around the lake, sealing the end of the adventure.

The founding spirit, constantly reinvented

Faithful to its founding values — a human-scale, accessible rally deeply rooted in the territories it crosses —, the Africa Eco Race continues to perpetuate the pioneer spirit of cross-country rallying while refreshing its routes.

The 2027 itinerary will feature its share of novelties, with new tracks and unseen stages. The reconnaissance teams will take to the trail starting in October to fine-tune the final details of this exceptional route.

To support the competitors and provide coverage fitting for the event, the organization is once again strengthening its logistical chain, safety infrastructure, and media resources, ensuring daily international coverage of the race.
