António Maio, at the controls of a Yamaha WRF 450 Rally and entered by the Franco Sport Yamaha Racing Team, ended another excellent performance at the Rallye du Maroc in a remarkable way. He finished the competition, which saw the participation of a very significant range of the most credentialed drivers in the sport, in 8th place in the Rally GP standings and in 15th place overall.
“Everything went very well. Today there was just one note that was more difficult to find and where I lost a lot of time, but it was good, it was always rolling and at a good pace. The bike was impeccable. I’m very happy with our performance. To be able to get to the end of the rally with this pace and without any problems is great, it’s a good indicator for the Dakar which will be in three months’ time. We’re very happy. Now it’s time to pack up and head back to Portugal, where another Baja Portalegre 500 awaits us in a few days’ time. Many thanks to everyone,” said the National Cross-Country Champion in Mengoub, where the rally’s bivouac was set up.
António Maio will immediately return to Portugal to start next Thursday’s race in Portalegre, where another edition of the mythical baja will take place, the oldest off-road competition in Portugal, a race he has won eight times and is the record holder for wins in the motorcycle competition.
