The 1000 Dunas Raid Reaches Historic Participation Numbers for Its 2025 Edition

From October 18 to 25, between Málaga and Merzouga, nearly a hundred riders will take on the most authentic motorcycle rally raid challenge

The 1000 Dunas Raid is back this October, stronger than ever, and the numbers speak for themselves: over 80 riders have already confirmed their participation in this edition—marking the highest number of entries since the event’s inception. This rally, conceived and directed by Miguel Puertas—an undisputed Dakar legend and a key figure in Iberian rally raid—continues to grow in both prestige and popularity.

Starting in Málaga and crossing Morocco from Nador to the endless sands of Merzouga, the 1000 Dunas is much more than a race. It’s a journey where each rider tests themselves, facing stages that reward navigation skills, physical endurance, and mental focus over raw speed. Over the course of seven days, participants follow a route that prioritizes roadbook navigation, making the raid a challenging yet safe experience—designed exclusively for motorcycles.

But the spirit of the 1000 Dunas isn’t just about difficulty—it’s also about inclusivity. With half a dozen categories, ranging from amateurs to desert veterans, any motorcyclist ready to push their limits will find their place here. And that commitment to inclusivity doesn’t mean the route is any less tough, as explained by a rider who competed in the classic bikes category:

“At first, they told us our route would be easier. But only a few segments were modified, and they took out the 13 Peaks stage, where bikes cross all the dunes of the Erg Chebbi. The rest was just as demanding. It’s been one of the most intense experiences I’ve ever had on a motorcycle.”

Miguel Puertas has achieved something rare: creating a rally that is technical and selective, yet accessible to those who train seriously. The result is a real challenge, where every rider writes their own story in the desert. And this year, with a record number of participants, many stories are about to begin.

Registration for this edition—taking place from October 18 to 25, 2025—is still open, though organizers expect to reach full capacity very soon.
