After two reconnaissance rounds, our sports director Jean-Claude Kaket announced that the racetrack will also be slightly modified. The marathon bivouac near the southern outpost of Guelta Zemmur will be removed, and the former stages 4 and 5 will be combined into a monster stage of no less than 527 km.
The reason? To add extra dunes to the route. Following a second passage on day 6, this adjustment creates space for an additional loop (the only one) on day 7, during which participants will spend most of the stage in the dunes of Erg Chegaga. In other words: it ain’t over till it’s over.
