2026 BYD Seagull Debuts: Now with LiDAR and Upgraded 313-Mile Range

At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, the updated 2026 BYD Seagull made a quiet but significant debut. The latest iteration of China’s popular electric hatchback brings two major upgrades to the table: a significantly extended driving range and the introduction of advanced LiDAR technology.

While the overall silhouette remains familiar, the 2026 Seagull features several refined exterior details. The show car was presented in a striking new red paint finish and equipped with redesigned 16-inch wheels wrapped in 175/55 R16 tires. The most notable addition is the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, which enables the vehicle to support BYD’s “Eye of the Gods” (DiPilot B) advanced driving assistance system.

Other exterior tweaks include camera modules integrated into the front fenders—similar to the current Freedom Edition—and a small blue indicator light at the rear. Notably, the windshield wiper system has been upgraded from a single-arm design to a more efficient dual-wiper setup.

Inside, the cabin retains its general layout but benefits from several ergonomic improvements. The steering wheel buttons have been simplified for better ease of use, and the smart-driving version now includes dedicated paddles for driver-assist functions.

The center console buttons are now color-matched to the interior trim, and the wireless charging pad has been upgraded to 50W, complete with a dedicated cooling vent. The center console has also been redesigned with a single cup holder and a new armrest box with an upward-opening lid.

Under the hood, the 2026 Seagull sees a performance bump, with the electric motor’s maximum power increasing to 60kW (approx. 80 hp). Most importantly for commuters, the CLTC range for the high-end trim has been boosted from 405km (251 miles) to an impressive 505km (313 miles), making it an even more competitive option in the entry-level EV market.
