SAIC-GM has officially launched the Buick E5 Pioneer Edition in China. It is a five-seat electric SUV, this new EV comes with a price of 169,900 yuan (23,200 USD).
According to Buick‘s official website, the car features dimensions of 4892mm in length, 1905mm in width, and 1681mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2954mm. Buick boasts of rear legroom exceeding one meter, providing a spacious interior. The front design incorporates a split headlight configuration and displays the new Buick logo. Its side features a sleek hidden door handle design, while the rear showcases a through-type taillight.
Inside the vehicle, Buick has equipped it with the new generation VCO cockpit. This cockpit hosts a EYEMAX 30-inch integrated curved screen. The standard Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip powers the infotainment system. Moreover, the car supports modern features like Apple CarPlay, a mobile phone remote control, an in-vehicle navigation system, and a voice assistant. In terms of safety and convenience, the vehicle is equipped with driving functions such as full-speed adaptive cruise control (FSRACC), intelligent lane centering assist (HOLCA), and forward collision warning (FCA).
In terms of power, the Buick E5 Pioneer Edition is built on the GM’s Ultium electric platform, and it is a front-wheel-drive vehicle powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor. This motor generates a maximum power of 180kW and a peak torque of 330N·m. The car boasts an acceleration time from 0 to 100km/h in just 7.6 seconds. Powering this EV is a 68.4kW· ternary lithium battery, which facilitates an impressive pure electric cruising range of 545km under CLTC comprehensive operating conditions. For charging convenience, DC fast charging from 30% to 80% is achievable in only 28 minutes. The Buick E5 Pioneer Edition showcases a power consumption of 13.5kW·h per 100 kilometers.

It’s worth noting that while the powertrain and battery specifications of the Buick E5 Pioneer Edition are consistent with its earlier low-profile version, Buick has managed to reduce the price by 39,000 yuan (5,500 USD).
To achieve this cost reduction, some features have been omitted from the Pioneer Edition, including the sunroof, heated steering wheel, electric seat adjustment, mobile phone wireless charging, heated front seats, and electric folding functions for the rearview mirror.
