China’s EV Charging Infrastructure Surpasses 21.9 Million Units as of April 2026

On May 21, the National Energy Administration (NEA) released the latest data on EV charging infrastructure in China for April 2026. According to the National Charging Infrastructure Monitoring and Service Platform, the total number of EV charging facilities (charging guns) across the country reached 21.955 million by the end of April 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 47.4%.

The data indicates that public charging facilities accounted for 4.907 million units, a 29.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The total rated power of these public charging piles reached 237 million kilowatts, with an average power output of approximately 48.38 kilowatts. Meanwhile, private charging facilities saw more rapid growth, reaching 17.048 million units, up 53.5% year-on-year. The total installed electrical capacity for these private charging facilities has reached 149 million kVA.
