On April 23, the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC L EV made its official debut. This new model pays homage to Mercedes-Benz’s century-old design heritage while incorporating cutting-edge technology, including an 800V high-voltage architecture and standard air suspension. It boasts a maximum CLTC range of 703 km (approx. 437 miles).
In terms of exterior design, the GLC L EV features a retro shield-shaped grille inspired by the classic 1900 design. This interactive grille houses 942 backlit units and an illuminated star emblem, which display different “breathing” light patterns during unlocking and charging. The front is equipped with new LED digital headlights that support adaptive high beams and automatic activation, enhancing both safety and the vehicle’s premium aesthetic. Notably, the vehicle includes a 128-liter front trunk (frunk), providing flexible storage for carry-on luggage.
To meet the demand for spaciousness in the Chinese market, the vehicle’s dimensions have been significantly optimized. It measures 4,949 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,027 mm. Compared to the overseas version, the wheelbase has been extended by 55 mm and the overall length by 104 mm, greatly expanding rear legroom. The side profile is sleek and elongated, featuring hidden door handles to reduce the drag coefficient.
The rear of the vehicle showcases a new star-pattern taillight design that echoes the front headlights, providing high recognition when illuminated. The overall rear design is clean and elegant, complemented by various wheel style options. Three new exterior colors—Zixi Silver, Cloud Mist Blue, and Obsidian Grey—are available to suit personalized tastes.
Inside, the GLC L EV continues the Mercedes-Benz tradition of luxury, blending technology with comfort. The cabin features 64-color ambient lighting and a massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, consisting of a 14.4-inch central display and a 12.3-inch passenger screen. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and the new MB.OS operating system, the system offers seamless multi-screen linkage, voice interaction, and OTA updates. A Head-Up Display (HUD) projects critical information like speed and navigation directly onto the windshield.
For the first time, a China-exclusive 6-seat (2+2+2) layout is offered, catering to both family and business needs. The trunk offers a standard volume of 570 liters, expandable to 1,740 liters with the seats folded. Premium features include heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, wireless charging, and a Burmester surround sound system. A panoramic “Starry Sky” roof, featuring 162 integrated stars using patented technology, enhances the immersive cabin experience.
Regarding driving assistance and chassis technology, the GLC L EV is equipped with a full-scenario suite including Navigation Pilot (for both highways and urban areas) and Parking Pilot. The chassis comes standard with an air suspension system that automatically adjusts damping and ride height. Additionally, rear-wheel steering with a maximum angle of 4.5 degrees significantly improves low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability.
The powertrain features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system (163 kW front / 300 kW rear) paired with the eATS 2.0 electric drive system, which includes a radial motor and a two-speed transmission for smooth yet powerful acceleration. The 89 kWh battery pack provides a CLTC range of 680 km to 703 km (approx. 422 to 437 miles). Thanks to the 800V architecture, the vehicle supports ultra-fast charging, adding 260 km (approx. 161 miles) of range in just 10 minutes.
