Nio delivers 18,012 cars in Dec, exceeds upper end of guidance for Q4 deliveries

Nio delivered 50,045 vehicles in the fourth quarter, exceeding the upper end of its previous guidance range of 47,000 to 49,000 vehicles.

Nio (NYSE: NIO) saw deliveries rebound in December, putting fourth-quarter deliveries above previous guidance.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered 18,012 vehicles in December, the third-highest on record behind July’s 20,462 and August’s 19,329, according to data it released today.

That’s up 13.89 percent from 15,815 vehicles in the same period in 2022 and up 12.86 percent from 15,959 in November.

The monthly deliveries included 12,048 SUVs and 5,964 sedans, Nio said.

Nio currently sells the ES8, ES7, ES6, EC7, EC6, ET7, ET5, ET5 Touring, the first five of which are SUVs and the last three sedans.

The company unveiled its executive flagship sedan, the ET9, at Nio Day 2023 on December 23, and has begun pre-sales. The ET9 has a pre-sale price of RMB 800,000 ($112,700), and deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2025.

Nio delivered 50,045 vehicles in the fourth quarter, exceeding the upper end of its previous guidance range of 47,000 to 49,000 units. That was up 24.95 percent year-on-year, but down 9.72 percent from the third quarter.

It had previously guided fourth-quarter revenue between RMB 16.08 billion and RMB 16.7 billion, implying year-on-year growth of about 0.1 percent to 4.0 percent.

For the full year of 2023, Nio delivered 160,038 vehicles, up 30.66 percent year-on-year.

By the end of 2023, Nio had delivered a total of 449,594 vehicles since its inception.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) said earlier today that it delivered a record 20,115 vehicles in December, the third consecutive month above the 20,000-unit mark.

Xpeng delivered a record 60,158 vehicles in the fourth quarter, which was within its previous guidance range of 59,500 to 63,500 units. That was up 170.93 percent year-on-year and up 50.36 percent from the third quarter.

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) delivered a record 50,353 vehicles in December, marking the first time monthly deliveries exceeded the 50,000-unit mark.

Li Auto delivered a record 131,805 vehicles in the fourth quarter, above the upper end of its previous guidance range of 125,000 to 128,000 units. That was a year-on-year growth of 184.56 percent and up 25.40 percent over the third quarter.

All models currently sold by Nio and Xpeng are battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while all models sold by Li Auto are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), essentially plug-in hybrids, targeting a larger market than BEVs.
