Spy shots of the upcoming SAIC-VW ID.ERA sedan have recently surfaced, revealing a sleek, sporty profile wrapped in signature SAIC-Volkswagen camouflage. The test mule clearly displays the Volkswagen logo on the windshield. Notably, the vehicle features both a fuel filler door and a charging port, along with a visible exhaust system tucked under the chassis. This confirms that, like the previously seen ID.ERA 9X, this sedan will utilize an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain.
In terms of exterior design, the ID.ERA sedan adopts a four-door coupe silhouette with a strong emphasis on aerodynamics. The front fascia mirrors the design language of the ID.ERA 9X, featuring a split-headlight arrangement. The upper section consists of a full-width daytime running light strip that integrates seamlessly with the illuminated VW badge. The main headlight units are positioned lower and integrated into the side air curtains, while the front bumper houses a functional intake grille for the internal combustion range extender. Interestingly, no LiDAR sensor is visible on the roof of this particular prototype.
From the side, the vehicle boasts a substantial footprint with a notably long wheelbase, suggesting it will compete in the mid-to-large sedan segment. Design details include semi-hidden door handles and large five-spoke alloy wheels that enhance its athletic stance. Moving to the rear, the fastback roofline flows into a subtle integrated ducktail spoiler. While heavily camouflaged, the taillights appear to follow the modern full-width trend.
While official specifications for the sedan have yet to be released, it is expected to share its mechanical underpinnings with the ID.ERA 9X. This includes an advanced 800V high-voltage platform paired with a 1.5T EA211 engine acting as a range extender. The dual-motor AWD setup in the 9X produces a combined output of 380 kW (approximately 510 hp) and offers a CLTC pure electric range of 406 km (252 miles). The spy photos also confirm the use of a multi-link independent rear suspension system, promising a balance of comfort and handling.
