The ID.UNYX 08, Volkswagen’s mid-to-large flagship electric SUV, is set to officially hit the market on April 16. Pre-sales for the new vehicle began on March 26, with a price range between 239,900 and 299,900 RMB (approximately $33,090 – $41,365 USD). Early buyers can benefit from incentives such as a 99 RMB ($14 USD) deposit counting as 2,000 RMB ($276 USD) toward the purchase, a free home charging pile, and lifetime basic maintenance for the first owner. As the first model co-developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng, the ID.UNYX 08 combines German engineering and driving dynamics with cutting-edge local smart technology, targeting the premium family electric SUV segment.

In terms of exterior design, the ID.UNYX 08 adopts Volkswagen’s latest family design language, featuring a bold and fluid silhouette. The closed front fascia is highlighted by an illuminated golden Volkswagen logo. The split-style intelligent interactive headlight units consist of over 400 independent LED beads, supporting various dynamic lighting scenarios. The vehicle measures 5,000 mm (196.8 inches) in length, 1,954 mm (76.9 inches) in width, and 1,688 mm (66.5 inches) in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 3,030 mm (119.3 inches), placing it firmly in the mid-to-large SUV category.

The side profile is sleek, featuring hidden door handles and 21-inch low-drag wheels. At the rear, a straight through-type LED taillight assembly is paired with a unique “wolf head” high-mounted brake light, providing high visibility and a distinct identity. The new car is available in eight exterior colors, including Twilight Blue, Twilight Purple, and Obsidian Black.

The interior focuses on luxury, comfort, and technology, utilizing a wrap-around layered layout with soft-touch materials covering most surfaces. The cockpit features a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument cluster and dual 14.96-inch 2.4K resolution screens for the center console and front passenger. An intelligent dimming panoramic sunroof creates an airy and open atmosphere. Standard features include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip, four-zone intelligent voice control, and a 20-speaker UNYX 7.1.4 surround sound system.

For seating, both the driver and front passenger enjoy multi-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The front passenger seat is a “Queen Seat” with 14-way adjustment and a leg rest. Rear passengers benefit from a 10-degree backrest adjustment, heating, and folding tray tables, balancing family comfort with practicality. Regarding autonomous driving, the vehicle comes standard with the VLA all-scenario system powered by two Turing chips providing 1,500 TOPS of computing power, supporting Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) for both city and highway driving.

Performance and chassis engineering are the core strengths of the ID.UNYX 08. Built on an 800V Silicon Carbide (SiC) high-voltage platform, it offers two powertrain options: a single-motor rear-wheel-drive version (230 kW) and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version (combined 370 kW). The AWD version can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds. The vehicle is equipped with CATL-sourced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in 82 kWh and 95 kWh capacities, offering CLTC ranges of up to 630 km (391 miles) and 730 km (453 miles), respectively. It supports 315 kW peak fast charging, allowing for 150 km (93 miles) of range in just 5 minutes, or a 10% to 80% charge in 20 minutes. The chassis features a double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension, with high-end trims equipped with dual-chamber air suspension and DCC adaptive damping for a perfect balance of handling and comfort.
