Tesla sold 65,504 EVs in China in November, up 129% MoM, export down

Tesla had a good month on the Chinese market in November. The US automaker sold 65,504 vehicles domestically, up 128.83% from October and up 4.82% from last year. The exports fell to 16,928 units, down 61,08% from October and 55.21% from the same month last year.

Tesla sold 82,432 China-made vehicles from the Shanghai Giga factory in November. Today, it was revealed that about 80% was sold in China and 20% went for export.

CPCA data also revealed today that out of all China-made vehicles, about 71% (58,433) were Model Y, and 29% (23,999) were Model 3. Compared with October, Model 3 sales slightly fell, and Model Y sales rose.

From January to November, Tesla exported 325,708 EVs from China, up 26.62% from last year. In China, the company delivered 527,859 cars, up 32.68% from 397,844 in the same period last year.

In November, 552,000 all-electric vehicles (BEV) were sold in China, meaning Tesla acquired 11.87% of the BEV market. At the same time, 289k plugin hybrids (PHEV) were sold in China.

Tesla’s Shanghai plant has been under a lot of pressure recently. In September, it had to change tooling and adjust production lines for the facelifted 2024 Model 3 production and the China-only updated Model Y. Moreover, dozens of electric mid-size sedans made by domestic automakers hit the market last year to compete with Model 3, such as the new Deepal SL03, Huawei Luxeed S7, and new BYD Seal.

The Model 3 Highland and Model Y SUV prices are almost on par in China since the new Model 3 was launched at a 12% higher price than the previous version. In November, Tesla showed confidence and continued to slightly raise the prices of their Chinese lineup almost every week by about 2,000 yuan (280 USD).
